Green cars are good. But if you want a really green car, you should have a really good battery pack. Today, hybrids use nickel-metal hydride battery packs. These are pretty good but not as good as lithium-ion batteries.
Li-ion batteries are better because it weighs less than a similarly sized Ni-MH battery. With hybrids designed to be as light as possible, it is good to have a lightweight battery. That's one point for the Li-ion. Apart from that, a Li-ion battery pack can store more power than a Ni-MH battery. This means that indeed, Li-ion is the future of electric car power source.
But even with a lot of professionals at work on the development of Li-ion batteries for automotive application, they are yet to find a way to make it safe for the bumps and vibrations in a car. But Lithium Technology Corporation has found a way to create a battery pack for automotive application.
Recently, the company announced the launch of a new lineup of Li-ion batteries. These batteries have been developed for electric vehicles according to Lithium Technology CEO Dr. Klaus Brandt. "We developed this product to power the new breed of EV's and for the fleet EV market that has been promoted recently all over the world," said Brandt.
Brandt also pointed out that the new battery pack has also set the bar higher for other companies. "In recent years LTC has been developing and offering battery technology that is unmatched by any other battery power solution on the market,' said Brandt. "Today we are launching a product line that will complete our offering to the various markets we are targeting. We continue to prove our technical superiority and with the new iron phosphate products we raised the bar again," he added.
